: paintings and installation by Jessica Bizer

Artist Statement
Jessica Bizer

I am interested in settings that contain deviating, often contradicting, identities— atmospheres
defined by the fluid boundaries between ordinary and fantastical experience. Such a theme is
especially relevant to the contemporary aesthetic environment, an atmosphere in which our
daily (and for many, constant) interaction with digital technology blurs the line between what is
extraordinary and what is commonplace. I find that the simultaneously harmoniousand unstable
activity in this environment contains abundant dramatic possibilities for painting.
